Preparing ALL Learners for a Changing World

Curriculum and Instruction

Curriculum and Instruction

When you think of school, you might picture heavy textbooks, long lists of standards, and rows of desks. But here at RSU 29, learning is an active, joyful adventure!

We want you to know right from the start what we are all about: Playful Learning, Project-Based Learning, Career Exploration, and Individualized High School Pathways. For us, curriculum is both the WHAT we teach (the core academics) and the HOW we bring that learning to life. It’s the behind-the-scenes magic—from Gifted and Talented (GT) programs and targeted interventions, to enrichment and personalized instruction—that ensures your child gets exactly what theyneed to thrive.

We are currently working hard to load this page up with all the specific details, course listings, and assessment goals, but first, we want to share the absolute heart of what learning looks like here. In RSU 29, education isn't a one-size-fits-all checklist. It is a hands-on journey designed to grow right alongside your child:

  • Grades PK-2: The Power of Playful Learning. We know that our youngest learners are wired to move, touch, and imagine! Through Playful Learning in our dedicated play labs and beautiful outdoor spaces, kids build their foundational academic and social skills. They are learning how to learn, all through the pure joy of play.

  • Grades 3-6: Project-Based Problem Solvers. As our students grow, so does their ability to impact the world around them. Using Project-Based Learning, we challenge them to tackle real-world, community issues. Whether they are building a physical model, creating a unique design, or solving a complex problem, students demonstrate exactly what they've learned by rolling up their sleeves and bringing their ideas to life.

  • Grades 7-8: Hands-On Career Exploration. Middle school is all about discovering "Who could I be?" Woven seamlessly into their literacy classes, students dive into exciting Career Exploration to learn about more than 60 different fields. They don't just read about these jobs; they actually step into a "day in the life" of these professions through immersive, real-world scenarios!

  • Grades 9-12: The Pathway Pursuit. High school is where it all comes together. Having explored various fields and taken personalized work-direction inventories, our students are ready to take the reins. Through our Individualized High School Pathways, students embark on their own customized Pathway—empowering them to shape their education and follow a path that brings them closer to a career they will genuinely love!

We are so honored to partner with your family on this incredible journey. Take a look around, and please check back soon as we continue to add more resources to this page!
